Falling Down The Rabbit Hole

Nicole Kidman stars as Becca in Rabbit Hole

Move over, Alice. There’s another film on the horizon, and this one is actually called Rabbit Hole.

Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart play Becca and Howie Cobertt, a couple in trouble after a big loss. No spoiler here, but Howie finds comfort in the familiar and Becca finds pain.

The supporting cast looks amazing with Grey’s Anatomy star Sandra Oh as the object of Eckhart’s fantasies and Dianne Wiest as as Becca’s mother. The byplay between Oscar winners Kidman and Wiest should be worth the price of admission alone, especially as Becca struggles with trying to patch her relationship with Howie.

David Lindsay-Abaire adapted his Pulitzer-Prize winning play for John Cameron Mitchell to direct. They’re a winning combination too. You’ll likely know Mitchell from his role directing Hedwig.

A strong cast with previous winners and intense plot around the holidays give it a boost. The Lionsgate film opens December 17 ahead of Christmas blockbusters Little Fockers, Gullivers Travels and the True Grit remake.

Rabbit Hole definitely has a shot against the kid flicks like Yogi Bear with its main competition coming from How Do You Know, which has James L. Brooks directing Nicholson, Reese and Paul Rudd in a love triangle flick. That will be a tough choice for date night at the movies and both seem worthy of serious couple time at the cinema.
