Ben 10: The Top 10 Aliens

Ben 10’s Ultimate Omnitrix

“If you see him, you may be in for a big surprise
He’ll turn into an alien before your very eyes
He’s slimy, freaky, fast, and strong
He’s every shape and size
He’s Ben 10!”

Ben 10 “And Then There Were 10” (Season 1, Episode 1)

Ben 10 was one of Cartoon Network’s biggest hits in the Aughts. A child named Ben Tennyson found The Omnitrix, an alien vambrace that could transform him into ten different superpowered aliens. Ben became a superhero while traveling the country with his snarky cousin Gwen, wise grandpa Max, and foe turned friend Kevin 11.

The Omnitrix often unlocked new alien forms, giving Ben more options during fights. It also tended to glitch and give him something he didn’t want, forcing him to adapt. It has over one million genetic samples, but Ben sticks to 10 options at a time. So what are the Top 10 Ben 10 Aliens you should add to your Omnitrix? Let’s find out. It’s hero time!

#10 Alien X

Species: Celestialsapien
Homeworld: The Forge of Creation

[a dam has burst]
Ben:Gotta stop that water. Good a time as any to give this one a try!” [transforms]
Alien X:Alien X! Seconded. Water-stopping motion carried!

Ben 10 Alien Force “X = Ben + 2” (Season 1, Episode 13)

Alien X is oxymoronic. It’s simultaneously Ben’s strongest alien and his greatest weakness because it is an alien with infinite potential that breaks any story in half.

Ben first used Alien X to save Gwen from a flood. He reversed time to fix a broken dam, then became non-responsive. Ben was trapped in Alien X’s mindscape with two entities who also had control over their form. Ben couldn’t do anything without convincing compassionate Serena and aggressive Bellicus to support him. He bullied them into letting him become human and swore not to use Alien X again.

Alien X is an invincible reality warper. It can do anything on the rare occasion that the majority of controllers agree. Serena and Bellicus have let Ben use Alien X’s powers for free in dire situations, including recreating the universe after it had been destroyed.

#9 XLR8

Species: Kinecelaran
Homeworld: Kinet

XLR8:I can still give you a run for your money.” [speeds off]
Vilgax:You can’t hide forever, boy!
XLR8: [running from the opposite direction] “Wasn’t planning on it!

Ben 10 “Secrets” (Season 1, Episode 13)

Ben 10 aliens have many strange abilities, but sometimes the simple ways work best. Who needs a gorilla made out of Legos or a martial artist chicken when you’re a superfast velociraptor?

XLR8 was one of Ben’s first aliens. He used it to outspeed stronger enemies or make last-minute saves. During a visit to the future, Ben learned that his future self spent most of his time patrolling Earth as XLR8 to stop all crime.

Don’t underestimate Ben’s most used form. He can move fast enough to run across water, turn invisible, and create tornadoes. XLR8 doesn’t have defensive skills, but good luck hitting him before he punches you one thousand times.

#8 Juryrigg

Species: Planchaküle
Homeworld: Aul-turrhen

Juryrigg:Juryrigg disassemble! [laughs uproariously while dismantling robots] Now reassemble! Fix! FIX, FIX, FIX, with one difference!

Ben 10: Omniverse “Gone Fishin’” – Season 2, Episode 2)

With one million aliens available, some are going to have similar powers and uses. Grey Matter is an iconic Ben 10 alien, but this gremlin on a sugar rush is more fun.

Juryrigg was a late addition that Ben had no idea how to control. A glitch caused Ben to keep transforming into him and wreck any technology he found. Gwen helped him figure out that Juryrigg could also repair and create advanced technology out of junk.

Engineering is Juryrigg’s signature trick. He can easily rip apart robots and weaponry, then make something useful to replace them. The transformation makes Ben hyperactive, chaotic, and spiteful, such as the time Juryrigg altered a superweapon to mutate one of his critics while healing everyone who had been hurt.

#7 Ben 10: Swampfire

Species: Methanosian
Homeworld: Methanos

[The Omnitrix has rebooted]
Ben:
I don’t recognize any of these guys. But under the circumstances… [stops on Swampfire] this one looks pretty good!

Ben 10 Alien Force “Ben 10 Returns” (Season 1, Episode 1)

If Juryrigg was meant to replace a Ben 10 alien, then this one was created to combine two aliens into a new, marketable alien. Farewell, Heatblast and Wildvine. Swampfire has it from here.

Swampfire was the first alien Ben unlocked after resuming hero work in his teens. It was one of his most-used forms thanks to a mix of offense and defense. Swampfire is also the only alien to change mid-show, undergoing Methanosian puberty and blossoming into an even stronger adult form.

Swampfire expels and ignites methane to shoot fireballs. He has a powerful healing factor, allowing Ben to get torn to shreds and heal as long as the Omnitrix doesn’t time out first. Blossoming gave Swampfire the ability to control and create plant life. Mix in super strength for a solid all-round pick.

#6 Brainstorm

Species: Cerebocrustacean
Homeworld: Encephalonus IV

Brainstorm: [accidentally transformed] “I’m not Jetray, I’m a seafood platter! Hm, and one apparently possessed of a highly advanced intellect. Ergo, perhaps I should assign this new life form a more apropos nomme de guerre. What say… Brainstorm!

Ben 10 Alien Force “Pier Pressure” (Season 1, Episode 7)

Reality warping and other powers are fun, but never underestimate the greatest power of all: intelligence. Even a god can be felled by a clever enough mind, which this Ben 10 alien excels at.

Brainstorm was an accidental discovery. He served as Ben’s super smart transformation replacing Gray Matter, ironic considering their species are bitter rivals. Brainstorm appeared infrequently, but always made use of his intelligence to predict and outplay enemies.

Brainstorm is a giant crab with the ability to shoot lightning from his brain. His IQ is 10^30, which lets him see the future by using predictive analysis. Useful tricks, but Earth isn’t designed for a car-sized crustacean to maneuver easily.

#5 Ben 10: Echo Echo

Species: Sonorosian
Homeworld: Sonorosia

Ben: [transforms] “Echo Echo! Don’t-
Echo 1:Let-
Echo 2:Him-
Echo 3:Get-
Echo 4:Away!

Ben 10 Alien Force “Kevin’s Big Score” (Season 1, Episode 4)

Ben 10 Aliens often remix older forms, but none of them were as much of an upgrade as this. Anything Ditto could do, Echo Echo does better.

Echo Echo was an early unlock for teenage Ben. He used it to outnumber enemies or perform multiple tasks at once. Ben tried using that trick to help maintain his secret identity, but it backfired due to Echo only having part of his personality in human form.

Echo Echo can create copies of himself to swarm enemies and has a sonic attack that can shatter metal. Ben can combine these traits, creating an unstoppable wall of sound or blasting enemies from multiple directions. He also stashes a spare clone of Echo Echo away from fights to serve as a lifeline. Even if the others are killed, he’ll be fine as long as that one survives.

#4 Feedback

Species: Conductoid
Homeworld: Teslavorr

Feedback:Now I remember why I like this guy. Feedback rules!

Ben 10: Omniverse “Showdown” (Season 2, Episode 10)

The biggest danger of being able to choose your powers is over-relying on a single type. No good hero is a one-trick pony, as Ben 10 learned the hard way.

Feedback was retroactively introduced as Ben’s favorite alien. He used it all the time, even when other forms would have been more useful. That backfired when a villain exploited Feedback’s weaknesses and destroyed its DNA sample. Ben couldn’t forgive himself and avoided thinking about Feedback for years. Ironically, making peace with his mistake somehow recreated the sample and brought Feedback back to life.

Feedback is strong, fast, and has electric powers. He can surf on power cables, shoot blasts of lightning, and absorb energy. It’s implied that the last element could be addictive, explaining why Ben insisted on using him so much. Similar things happened to Kevin 11, who also had problems with energy absorption.

#3 Way Big

Species: To’kustar
Homeworld: N/A

Way Big:Hey, Dagon, why not pick on someone your own size?!

Ben 10: Ultimate Alien “The Ultimate Enemy” (Season 2, Episode 31)

Many aliens in the franchise borrow from other series. Design elements, powers, or outright copying another character and making them an alien. The second strongest in the Omnitrix is Ben 10 tipping a hat to Ultraman.

Way Big was the final alien that Ben unlocked as a child. This kaiju-sized alien was used to defeat intergalactic warlord Vilgax and other threats too powerful for most of Ben’s forms. Ben avoids using Way Big to prevent collateral damage and inadvertent deaths.

Way Big borrows Ultraman’s powers, including the ability to pull new tricks out of his giant tuchus. He’s very strong and durable, can fly, blocks attacks by spinning, and has many energy attacks.

#2 Ben 10: Rath

Species: Appoplexian
Homeworld: Appolexia

Rath: LEMEE TELL YA’ SOMETHIN’, JARRETT OF PANTOPGAGE: I JUST JUMPED DOWN YOUR THROAT! You start a war with the Lewodans and I will do it again! Only next time, I’ll knit your intestines into a sweater!

Ben 10 Alien Force “Con of Rath” (Season 3, Episode 13)

Lemee tell ya somethin’, readers who we appreciate! There’s always gonna be some Ben 10 aliens that are more popular than others! Who doesn’t enjoy Tony the Tiger doing his best pro wrestler impression?

Rath was accidentally unlocked during a diplomatic mission. Not a great time to become an ornery tiger man. Rath’s temper and bloodlust is often problematic for Ben. Its genetic sample was also damaged, preventing the Omnitrix from generating clothes for him. Fixing that glitch turned Rath from a WWE star into a luchador who only spoke Spanish.

Rath’s strength and durability make up for his outbursts. He’s a jack of all trades with razor sharp claws and trained in wrestling. Ben’s allies also view him as one of the most fun aliens, often sitting back to let Rath grandstand until they’re needed.

#1 Big Chill

Species: Necrofriggian
Homeworld: Klymyys

Big Chill: [freezes several aliens] “Thought you guys liked it cold?

Ben 10 Alien Force “Max Out” (Season 1, Episode 6)

The most important trait for a Ben 10 alien is that they look like an alien. Many of the ones we’ve picked so far are sci-fi versions of creatures or human-esque superheroes. My personal favorite draws from the real world cryptid Mothman.

Big Chill is one of Ben’s most used aliens, unlocked shortly after he returned to heroics. He specializes in stealth missions and fights where versatility is needed. Big Chill is also one of the only aliens to hijack the Omnitrix, forcing Ben to transform into that form and consume metal so he could asexually reproduce. The children left Earth to absorb cosmic radiation for decades, conveniently ensuring the writers didn’t need to explain them to fans who missed that episode.

Big Chill is versatile. He can fly, turn intangible and invisible, breath freeze blasts, and manipulate ice. His wings can fold into a cloak while not flying, making him look like an insect-themed Batman. Big Chill has poor defense, but it’s hard getting close enough to attack.
