Veteran character actor Charles Lane died July 9 in Santa Monica, CA. He appeared in hundreds of films (the first being 1931’s Smart Money) and also performed on stage and TV. Frank Capra cast Lane in ten films, including It’s a Wonderful Life and Mr. Deeds Goes to Town; Lucille Ball gave him parts on I Love Lucy. Lane was 102.
