Anne Hathaway was born in 1982 and took to the stage at a young age. Throughout her school years she regularly performed in plays and musicals, ending her formal schooling at New York University’s Gallatin School of Independent Study.
The young actress landed her first role in front of the camera at age 16, starring in the briefly aired Fox TV show Get Real. Not long after, she broke into the big time as Mia Thermopolis in the ‘tween sensation film The Princess Diaries opposite Julie Andrews. She followed that grand debut with strong comedic performances in Ella Enchanted, Princess Diaries 2 and opposite Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada.
A big chance to spread her wings and do a truly dramatic role arrived when she was cast as Jake Gyllenhaal’s wife in Brokeback Mountain. Though she continues to take mainly romantic comedy roles, she stepped up to the dramatic plate again in 2008 in Rachel Getting Married. This time she was rewarded with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
Having been acknowledged by People Magazine as one of its 50 Most Beautiful People in 2006, the young actress continues to come into her own. She has embraced her non-Barbie beauty and taken her stage training and segued it into a thriving big screen career that looks to be just beginning.
