A moment of mourning here at Movie Rewind for Sydney Pollack, who died yesterday of cancer at his home in Los Angeles. Even though he directed two movies I can’t stand — The Firm, which needlessly changed the ending, and the even less necessary remake of Sabrina — I have nothing but respect for the director-producer-actor (and not just because he directed Tootsie, a personal fave.) Typical of someone so prolific, Pollack’s last appearance as an actor came in Made of Honor, released a couple of weeks ago, and he had recently served as executive producer for George Clooney’s Leatherheads and HBO’s Recount. He was 73 at the time of his death.
