Proof, as if you needed it, that TV producers will take ideas wherever they can find them; ABC has ordered a pilot for a comedy based on the Geico cavemen ads. The show, said the network, would focus on Neanderthals who “struggle with prejudice on a daily basis as they strive to live the lives of normal thirty-somethings in 2007 Atlanta.” Since the pilot is being written by an advertising copywriter who worked on the campaign, narrative cohesiveness will probably give way to cheap gags and less than brilliant dialogue. Could’ve been worse, though — they could’ve tried to base a show on the talking gecko instead.
So easy, even a caveman could write it
