Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Zombie Power!

Main Cast: Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Oded Fehr, Sandrine Holt

Director: Alexander Witt

The attack of the zombies continues in the second installment of this series, with the mysterious Alice (Jovovich) taking center stage. But she is joined by a diverse group of police and civilians this time around, and not confined to a underground lab, but an entire city.

The story: The Umbrella Corporation went back to their underground laboratory where genetics research went horribly wrong. Opening the doors to the surface world was a big mistake, though, and the disease escaped. Immediately the Umbrella Corp. closed down the entire city located above (they *really* have some pull!) and sent teams in to rescue select scientists. Meanwhile the gates to the city were sealed and the people left to the zombies. A few police officers and a reporter encountered Alice in a church, and they joined forces to find a way out of the city while not being killed. A side story of a few private security officers left behind by the Umbrella Corp. also intersect with Alice and company.

I liked this movie. The plot was serviceable and the people didn’t do *too* many stupid things, although there were a few blunders (and obvious situations set up simply to look good on camera). The side stories were pretty good and it all meshed together well. Alice continued to be a mystery, and even more so at the end of the film. The zombies provided enough menace, although the humans managed to do enough to each other that, sometimes, were worse than what the mindless zombies could dish out. I can recommend this as a good outing of the genre, with plenty of action and tense moments.
