Here are last week’s top ten network TV show websites (by market share), according to MarketingChart.com and Hitwise:
1. American Idol
2. Big Brother 9
3. Dancing with the Stars
4. Surviving: Micronesia
5. Deal or No Deal
6. America’s Most Wanted
7. The Bachelor
8. The Office
9. Lost
10. Grey’s Anatomy
Two things jump out at me when I look at this list:
— Reality TV kicks butt online as well as onscreen. I haven’t researched this, but I’m guessing that the two dramas and one comedy that did make the list would be #1, #2, and #3 for most popular TV fansites (though not necessarily in that order).
— I was surprised by Deal or No Deal ending up as high as it did (different competitors from week to week, no dangerous challenges, no nasty judges). Then I looked at the official website, and I think — although I can’t be absolutely sure — that the many, many pictures and video of beautiful models may be the reason. (Apologies to anyone who just goes there for the games or Nick Greco’s blog.)
