Tatum is going to be very well known by the time 2011 rolls around. He has 2 confirmed films due out this year and another two or three that could be out in the next 6-12 months.

As for social media and celebrities, it's a tool. The ones who embrace it and are not considered whorish in their behavior should be looked at like we look at the athlete who signs autographs before or after games. (Or the actor or musician or whatever). Do they want to evangelize their fan base? Sure. But as you said, it's not bad if the motives are relatively sincere.

I had to look Channing Tatum up just to see what he looks like - I don't think I've ever seen the guy before. Amanda Seyfried I recognize, but not him. Are Nicholas Sparks adaptations required to mine their female leads from "Mean Girls"?

I see your point about social media making performers seem accessible - it's going to be an important tool for a lot of people. I admire the people who use it and do it with some class - but I also have to admire actors who conscientiously stay out of the public eye unless they have a film to discuss. Too much accessibility to an actor's personal life can make it harder for them to disappear into a character, thus harder for us to suspend our disbelief in the theater. Makes me wonder what the magic balance is for young performers and how they navigate those very tricky waters without becoming Lindsay Lohan.

Sure. I'm totally impressed when anyone embraces social media and does it well. Channing Tatum did that with Twitter, and I think his willingness to engage a fan community there will help all of his releases.

You know who else does that? Lady Gaga, Howie Mandel, Shaq, Pete Wentz. They're all people like Tatum who have plenty of talent, but they've made social media and public accessibility part of their routine, and it wins them evangelists, not just fans.

I think Tatum is a hell of a good actor with a keen marketing sense. I'm impressed.

What about you -- since you hid behind a pseudonym?
